HAPPY NEW YEAR! This website recorded just over 450,000 hits for 2011. Thank you all for looking. The first update of 2012 includes 2011's last picture; Tornado at Princes Risborough. It also features the first pictures in the new "2012 Pictures" gallery. These feature 66206 on a "unit drag" and DRS 47828 on the Northern Belle; both at Cheddington. Just for a change, the Authors Choice features a bus picture.

For Update 17 I have added a new category in the Railways gallery; Class 50. This includes pictures from 1974, when the 50s first appeared on the Western Region, up to the end of their BR service in the 1990s. We see them on passenger, freight, parcels, a milk train, and even in a light engine move with “Sarah Siddons”. The ‘Authors Choice’ picture has been changed to one featuring Minster signalbox in East Kent, which will be closed in late December 2011.

This update mainly features steam and RHTTs; The former includes a King and a Britannia at Dawlish and a Castle at Princes Risborough. We see the latter at Dawlish, on the Exmouth branch, and at Brill Tunnel. There is also a green 47, and trains getting pounded by rough seas on the sea wall at Dawlish.

A varied update from late September and the first half of October. We have diesel and electric from DBS, Freightliner, Colas, Southeastern, LUL and Chiltern. First views of 2011's RHTTs, and even a DC-3 Dakota! As it's RHTT time again, the Author's Choice shows DRS 20s on the Essex RHTT in 2007.

Another big update. I have finally finished uploading pictures of my trip to Canada and the US this Spring; the images can be found in the "Canada & USA 2011" gallery. A new 'Author's Choice' celebrates this. More pictures also added to the "2011 Pictures" gallery. These include a shot of the new through line at Princes Risborough in action and some pictures from a day out on the Isle of Wight.

A big update this time, all in the '2011 Pictures' gallery. We have the return of A stock on the Chesham shuttle, Bubble Car to Quainton, varied freight at Cholsey, and 'drags', signalboxes, semaphores and swing bridges in Norfolk. Even a new 'Authors Choice'.

A long time since the last update; however, I have been busy scanning and editing old slides for a new 'Southern Units' gallery, which is now available for viewing. This features pictures of Southern Region emu's and demu's from the early 1980s to the post privatisation era. Some new shots from the last few months have been added to the '2011 Pictures' gallery

There has not been much activity on this site for a while. This is mainly due to me being away for nearly a month on our trip to southern Africa. This update includes; a picture from the C&PRRA gala in August, just before I left, some pictures taken at Victoria Falls station in Zimbabwe, and engineering action in connection with project Evergreen 3 at Princes Risborough

Having had a wonderful weekend in Devon at the end of June, during which I photographed 'Western Champion' on the famous sea wall, it seemed appropriate to make the latest 'Authors Choice' picture a '1000'. There is another parallel; currently summer 2010 is turning out to be a dry one like 1976. Whether there will be a drought and the appointment of a 'Minister of Rain', as there was that year, we will see!

A new update with, firstly, some pictures from earlier in March that I forgot at the previous update (old age setting in!). These were taken at Princes Risborough and feature DBS liveried 67018 and EWS 67002 as substitutes on WSMR and a new PW working on the Chiltern Line. The second batch of pictures were taken when I went out for a double headed oil train on the GW mainline. The final pictures were taken on a trip to Cheshire and include my first Class 70 shots and a GBRf working.

First update of '2010 Pictures' gallery since January. This probably reflects the lousy February weather. March has started better, and I have added shots of 'Princess Elizabeth', a Freightliner 66, and several SWT units, which were taken while I waited for a Class 73 hauled train that never turned up.

I had 2 enjoyable holidays in Cornwall during 2009; in particular over Christmas. As I have a good selection of railway pictures from Cornwall over many years, I decided to create a gallery illustrating the, often, unique railway scene down there. There is a particular focus on the 1980s, with large logo 50s, red stripe 37s, and loco hauled trains to Newquay.

The RHTT (Railhead Treatment Trains, or leaf clearers) have provided some interest on the Chiltern Lines this autumn. This latest update has pictures of the new 66 hauled RHTT and the venerable Chiltern Railways DMU RHTT.

News came through that the first delivery train of LUL's new S Stock would be passing through Princes Risborough with 20189 and 20227 providing traction on 20 October 2009. As it would be after dark (23:30, in fact) I did some swotting up on night photography and RAW images in Kim Fulbrook's excellent book "A guide to digital railway photography". The result is the latest addition to the '2009 Pictures' gallery.

The Buses side of the site has been neglected for a while, especially as I don't take too many bus photographs these days. However, I have added a new sub-category for Buses in Bucks & the Chilterns. I want it to reflect the bus scene of my local area; in particular the many changes that have taken place since I moved to the area in 1985, mainly due to privatisation. Photographs, which are all scans of transparencies, will be added over the coming days and weeks.

Even though the long, sunny, evenings recently have been conducive to photography, they are not ideal for sitting in front of a PC, editing and uploading. Now things have cooled off a bit, this update has been prepared with new pictures (in the 2009 gallery) from 3 trips over the last 10 days or so.
